Hi,

I've watched a lot of pre-mades ... I actually tried one for the first time on the weekend.

There seems to be a wide variety of motivation for it ...

1) Playing with other folks is fun and the extra coordination doesn't hurt. One interesting observation is that even when folks are doing their own thing in a group ... they are less likely to just wander off and die since other folks are watching.

2) Some pre-mades are all about rolling over the opponents ... maximizing W/L and K/D.

3) Some pre-mades enjoy the challenge, the strategy, planning and execution against competent opponents.

Folks from groups 1 and 3 will probably love the 8v8 queue since they are playing for fun and challenge. Folks from group 2 might well just stay away from it since their stats will drop and they won't be able to roflstomp their opponents.

I am just curious what the proportion of players might be in each category ... will the regular playing queue still be filled with 4 man pre-mades who enjoy rolling over other players more than the fun and challenge of an even match?

Those who suffer humiliating losses in 8-man premade games will eventually split up. The rest continues to have fun with other premades.

I'd like to think most premades would be more interested in 8v8. Unfortunately there will still have to be odd man out 2-4 man premades playing when there is not enough people for a 8 player premade. I know I'm gonna hate being the 9th guy to show up.

Your only choices are 1-4 or 8 man groups. Some won't be able to fill an 8-man, so they'll have no choice but to play the PuG queue. Sometimes you just have to roll with what you have.

Not quite Bilbo, their last statement was that anyone 5+ could enter the premade queue, and just get brutalized by the uneven teams.

I will be playing solo, in 2-4 man teams and in 8 man teams.

They actually changed this with the latest update.

2,3,4 or 8 only. looking for link now

up to 4 works as it does now, 8 man is only against other 8 men drops and there is no drop restrictions other than numbers

It's in the second post in the "how it works" section

That doesn't seem quite right. Last I heard you had to have 2 4-man groups to queue. Maybe that's old info, but the last I remember at least.

I do know DHB will be dropping 8 man groups frequently. We'll probably have 3+ teams running 8 man queues during peak hours, so there should be a number of teams in the queue ready to go.

I still don't understand why they won't let us drop in 5-7 man teams.

Nope, they changed it again. Awesome.

Before, they were planning on all kinds of spiffy team options - run five (clanners!) run six, seven, eight, whatever! Just be aware you CAN face a full 8 man team!

I guess that was too much work or something, so now it's back to 8 or nothing.

A majority of your unit based premades will do the 8x8s. Occasionally, I can see doing a 4 man while waiting for a room to fill. I can tell you for sure that most of BWC will be looking at 8 man drops. We tend to be types who appreciate winning a good fight a gazillion times more than just a win.

This.

A lot of people/clans are in for a rude awakening when they realize running an 8-man is no longer an instant win and that they aren't quite as skilled as they thought. Then they will go back to 4 man duo-queuing.

I expect that 8-man drops will thin out after a few weeks and become the realm of the more competitive players but without CW to give them something to aim for beyond c-bills some will drop back to 4 mans for a bit more of a challenge, if they tire of facing the same handful of 8 man teams with the same builds round after round.

Need that CW to really make it thrive. Until then it'll just be a sort of proving ground.

If i had teamspeak (and a headset/mic) and 7 friends on, I would. Or even just drop with random groups of 8. unfortunately i do not, and for various reasons don't think i will anytime soon, so I will continue pug dropping, and rolling my eyes at the amount of stupidity and whining these forums seem to make.

Maybe in future i join a group. will have to see.

HHoD tended to have multiple 8 man groups on when they were available, and have twice as many 4 man groups on now, so we'll be running as many 8-mans as we can with spares running in 4mans until there are enough to roll up to a full 8-man

They changed it several times. 1-4 or a full set of 8 is the only options

There is no 'take two fours and merge them' either.

If yuo have a 4-man group you have to dissolve the group and make a new 8-man-only group to even be allowed to invite more than 4 players.

Well, after your 8 man has 1 disconnect, 2 black screens and someone on a potty break a bit too long, it'll feel just like a 5 man. ;-)

You might be surprised by the number of casuals that won't mind dropping in 8s even if they lose most of their games. I play WoT quite a bit and when I do company battles I go up against casuals all the time. Most of them aren't even from a single unit they are just random guys that joined the que to fight using coms. Those teams can't be winning more than 20% of their games but you can find them in the company battles que all the time.

Any serious unit will play 8-mans. The rest are 4-man pug stompers. Hopefully PGI will pull their heads out and implement a match-making mode where there are no teams of any size on either side for the solo players. They seem so confused about this, but it is quite a simple problem.
